4 Proven Benefits of Super B Complex for Neuropathy

Neuropathy is a disease caused by damage to the Peripheral Nervous System (the large network of nerves that carry messages between the Brain and Spinal Cord, and the rest of the body). The proper functioning of these nerves is essential to regulate and control body functions such as voluntary muscle movement, involuntary organ activity as well as the perception of stimuli [1]. Neuropathy may be present at birth or can be acquired later in life as a result of many different factors, including poor nutrition, exposure to specific drugs or toxins, physical trauma or injury, disease, alcohol consumption or autoimmune processes[2][3].
Benefits of Super B Complex for Neuropathy
Whilst many different treatment protocols exist [4], in this article, we specifically address the benefits of Super B Complex (Vitamin B supplement) for Neuropathic intervention.
- Resolves the Vitamin B Deficiency That Causes Neuropathy
Neuropathy can be caused by a deficiency in B vitamins [7] which are essential for healthy nerve function. A Vitamin B deficiency can be the result of many reasons including inadequate nutrition, disease, treatments, drugs or alcoholism [8]. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential to prevent permanent nerve damage. The missing B Vitamins can be obtained directly via food (i.e. meats, dairy, eggs or fish), oral therapy, injections, and/or the use of B12 supplements such as Methyl-Life’s Super B Complex.
2. Accelerates Nerve Regeneration
According to a Study from 2016[5], “Tissue levels of vitamin B complex and vitamin B12 vary with progression of peripheral nerve injury. Supplementation of vitamin B complex in the acute period of peripheral nerve injury deserves to be considered as a treatment option, which may be useful for acceleration of nerve regeneration”. Vitamin B was also found to be more effective than the traditionally used tricyclic antidepressant nortriptyline for the treatment of symptomatic painful diabetic neuropathy [9].
3. Shows Evidence of Relieving Pain
There is evidence to suggest that Super B Complex can be of benefit in the management of Neuropathic pain. For instance, a Study from 2012[6] to investigate whether treatment with B1, B6, and B12 vitamins can improve nociceptive (pain arising from the stimulation of nerve cell) behaviors in a model of trigeminal (5th cranial nerve) pain suggests that B vitamins might have an important role to play in controlling some aspects of trigeminal neuropathic pain.
4. Improves Nerve Conduction Velocity and the Vibration Perception Threshold
In a recent Study [10], “the effectiveness of treatment with a combination of Benfotiamine (a derivative of vitamin B1 with high bioavailability) plus vitamin B6/B12 on objective parameters of neuropathy was studied over a period of 12 weeks on 24 diabetic patients with diabetic polyneuropathy. The results showed a “significant improvement in nerve conduction velocity in the peroneal nerve” and a “trend towards improvement of the vibration perception threshold.”
Nerve Conduction Velocity is simply a measure of how fast an electrical impulse moves through a nerve. Vibration Perception Threshold basically tests the loss of feeling of protective sensations. The results supported the contention that “the neurotropic benfotiamine-vitamin B combination represents a starting point in the treatment of diabetic polyneuropathy”.
